7. Can you tell me which beaches have ramp access?

There are ramps up onto the promenade and from there down to the beach along Beach Drive at the following intersections, starting from the far east end of town at Poverty Beach and continuing to the far west end of town at the Cove Beach:

  • Wilmington
  • Trenton
  • Philadelphia
  • Madison
  • Jefferson
  • Howard
  • Stockton
  • Gurney
  • Decatur
  • Perry
  • Grant
  • Patterson
  • Broadway and at the end of Beach Drive at the Cove Beach.
  • 6. My Golden Retriever (who is always on leash) and I are coming to Cape May for vacation before the season begins. What are the dates that dogs are no longer allowed on the beach. I am planning to stay at the Marquis de Lafayette Hotel which is along the beach. My only reason for returning to Cape May is so he and I can walk on the beach and I can take photos of him. Please give me the guidelines. Thank you, Kim Bierly and Stratton

I checked with the local police and was told the following. Dogs are allowed on the beach with these restrictions. The dogs must be on a leash. They can only be on the beaches from Madison Avenue going east to Poverty Beach. They can only be on the beach from October 30th through April. The officer I spoke to wasn't very clear about the date in April; however, if that is the time of year you are intending to visit, you could check back with them at the Police non-emergency number which is 609-884-9500.

    5. How may I purchase beach tags at preseason rates? One of the sales people told me last summer that they may be ordered online beginning in December.

To answer your question, I've just contacted the City Hall Tax Office (where beach tags are available to purchase). Unfortunately, there is no opportunity to order beach tags on-line. However, up to five Seasonal Tags, per individual, can be ordered by mail.

The mail order per tag cost for a Seasonal Tag are as follow:

  • $10.75 thru December 31, 2004 - MUST be postmarked no later then 12/31/2004
  • $13.75 thru April 30, 2005 - MUST be postmarked no later then 4/30/2005
  • $25.00 after April 30, 2005 (updated June 28th 2005)

To order, send check, made out to City of Cape May, and mail to

  • 4. I understand that the 2005 tags could be bought this past summer for a discount. Will there be anyother time this year that I can purchase the tags at the discount rate?

During the month of December, the City of Cape May will be selling 2005 seasonal beach passes for the discounted price of $10 each. This discount will expire at the end of the month at which time the seasonal passes will cost $13 each until April 30th, 2005. During the 2005 season, the seasonal passes will cost $25 each.

    3. I was wondering if you need to have beach tags for after Labor Day? Also is there an age under which you don't need them?

The city required beach tags from June 12 through September 2, 2004. So, at this point you won't need them. For future reference, children under the age of 12 do not need beach tags either.

If you are interested, please visit the city's official website for more information: http://capemaycity.com/announcements.htm

    2. How much is a pass to Cape May beach at the Point?

Beach tags are not required at the Cape May Point State Park Beach. They are, however, required on the beaches of Cape May Point itself though.

The fees on the beaches of Cape May Point are:

  • Seasonal - $25.00 per person
  • Weekly - $10.00 per person
  • Daily - $5.00 per person

The tags can be purchased on the beach from the tag inspectors.

  • 1. Are there places that rent cabanas, sunshades or umbrellas on the beaches?

Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented right on the beaches of Cape May.
